E.R. Bert Medina
In July of 2018 Bert Medina was named President & CEO of WPLG, Inc., which operates the ABC, MeTV and H&I affiliates in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market, as well as digital platform Local10.com. Medinabecame President of WPLG Inc., in July of 2014. Prior to that, he served as WPLG’s Vice-President and General Manager beginning October 2013. WPLG, Inc. is a Berkshire Hathaway company. Medina also serves as CEO of Miami Tower LLC.
In 2011, Medina founded and led Cangas Communications, a media investment and management firmfocused on commercial television stations, film/TV production and digital media assets in the U.S. and globalmarkets.
Previously, Medina held a variety of executive management positions during his 13-year tenure with Univision. He served as Senior Vice President and Operating Manager of the TeleFutura Television Network, a unit of Univision Communications, where he propelled the operation to the number two Spanish-language broadcast network (behind its sister network, Univision). Earlier, in Chicago, he served as Vice President and General Manager of Univision’s WGBO and TeleFutura’s WXFT, launching the latter as TeleFutura’s flagship station and positioning them as the number one (WGBO) and number two (WXFT) Spanish-language stations in that market.
Prior to Univision, Medina served in several key executive positions during his 14 years with SunbeamTelevision Corporation. At Sunbeam, Medina served as Vice President of Programming & Operations andCorporate Director of Programming. He began his career at Sunbeam’s Miami station, WSVN, as a Research Analyst and later, Research Director, Director of Marketing, Research & Cable Relations andDirector of Broadcast Operations.
In 2014, Medina became a member of the WPLG Board of Directors. Medina served on the Board of Governors for the ABC Television Affiliates Association from 2015 through 2020 and also served from 2024 through April of 2025. Since 2015 Medina has been on the Board of Directors for the Florida Association of Broadcasters, the Kopenhaver Center for The Advancement of Women in Communication and the Seneca Park Association Board, where he currently serves as Secretary and Treasurer. Medina also joined the Board of Directors for the Emma Bowen Foundation in 2015 where he served through 2018. In 2019, Medina joined the Emma Bowen Foundation Advisory Board. In 2016, Medina was elected to the Board of Directors for the Marfan Foundation and in 2018 became a member of the Marfan Executive Committee. Medina is currently Chairman of the Marfan Foundation Board. In 2017, Medina joined the Board of Directors for the National Association of Broadcasters and served until June of 2024. Medina has served on the boards of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the Illinois State Broadcasters Association and the Board of Trustees of Columbia College (Chicago). He has also served on the boards of the SouthFlorida Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the American Marketing Association (Miami). In addition, Medina has been a guest lecturer at several universities.
Medina received a BS in communications from Florida International University.
